It’s spring cleaning time! I’m such a fan of spring and summer and everything that goes along with it. Cleaning out the last dregs of winter makes me feel excited and refreshed.
Not everyone is thrilled with spring – all that blooms causes allergy and sinus issues for a lot of people, and if that’s the case for you, then check out this post to read how essential oils can help you breathe easier this spring.
Washing away all the winter dust with commercial cleaning solutions can actually trigger allergies/sinus issues and can trigger an asthma attack, too.
Web M.D. published an article about the chemicals in everyday products such as cleaning agents, perfumes, sunscreen, toothpaste – and even your vinyl shower curtain! Chemicals are everywhere but there are ways to cut down on them and still maintain a clean and healthy lifestyle.
The chemicals that are in cleaning products in particular can trigger an asthma attack. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) keeps track of the different chemicals in everyday products and found out something scary:
Fumes from some cleaning products may induce asthma in otherwise healthy individuals. A large and growing body of evidence links frequent use of many ordinary cleaning supplies at home or on the job with development of asthma and other respiratory problems. It is already known that cleaning product fumes may trigger attacks in persons previously diagnosed with asthma.
If that doesn’t scare you, it should! So what’s the alternative – a dirty house? No!
Natural is Good!
I wrote a post on why going natural is good for you – seriously – we’re breathing in a lot of toxic chemicals that are making us sick!
Cleaning products that won’t trigger an asthma attack are priceless – and awesome especially after someone has been sick with the flu or bronchitis. Here’s a recipe for a non toxic cleaner that I use for cleaning everything in my house (except marble, granite and painted surfaces):
All-Purpose Cleaner
- 12 ounces Distilled Water
- 10 ounces White Vinegar
- 1 ounce Dr. Bronner’s SAL Suds
- 15 drops Rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis)
- 15 drops Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternafolia)
- 15 drops Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)
- 15 drops Lemon (Citrus limon)
- 15 drops Oregano (Origanum vulgare)
Combine all ingredients in a 22 ounce spray bottle and shake well before each use.
Not only are you using the wisdom of nature to clean everything from mirrors and windows to tiles and tubs, but you are actually boosting your immune system as you clean.
You can feel good about spring cleaning this year – your house will be clean and you won’t be breathing in toxic chemicals. Green cleaning products are a win all the way around!
Please let me show you how you can easily take charge of your health. Call or email or fill out the contact form today. Don’t wait!
Blessings!
