This week, we’re taking a look at good essential oils for wintertime. They’re all good but some are just better than others for those dark wintry days.
As usual, it’s aromatherapy to the rescue! There’s several good essential oils for wintertime that help you focus, stay alert and help fight off the blues. And many of these are immune stimulating essential oils which is always good in the wintertime!
Peppermint (Mentha x peperita)
Peppermint is probably one of my favorite oils. It has very versatile and it does so much to help you especially in the winter. It can help clear your energy, it’s uplifting and stimulating to your mind to combat fatigue, it awakens and refreshes, it stimulates the digestion of new ideas and creativity and supports self confidence.
It is a well-known and proven analgesic, anti-inflammatory, decongestant and also helps with itching. Please use caution when using peppermint with children.
Lemon (Citrus limon)
Nearly everyone loves the aroma of fresh squeezed lemons. It has such an uplifting scent and as such, helps reduce anxiety and depression. Lemon essential oil with its components limonene and citral, can decrease both physical and psychological stress.
Wintertime is stressful with all the extra clothes you have to wear and snow and ice on the streets. With its antibacterial and antioxidant actions, anti-inflammatory actions, and activating, tonic effects on the mind and body,
Lemon essential oil can be used to help support the immune system and promote well-being. It also supports healthy liver function.
Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea)
I have to say, Clary Sage is an amazing oil – another one of my favorites. It reduces anxiety, calms the mind and is emotionally uplifting, all good qualities to have for those dark winter nights.
Clary Sage has a wide range of actions for people with respiratory issues such as asthma. It seems like we catch more colds during the winter and the properties of Clary Sage are anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and analgesic – perfect for everyday use.
Oregano (Origanum vulgare)
If there is one oil that is amazing and perfect to have on hand in the wintertime, it’s Oregano. There is scientific proof that Oregano has extremely effective properties against methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), showing a higher effectiveness than 18 currently used drugs. Oregano is exceptional for your respiratory and digestive systems and is a good natural antiseptic due to the Thymol content.
What more could you ask for in a wintertime oil – it’s a stimulating nerve tonic, warming and calming and gives a feeling of well being. It also helps relieve the fear associated with anxiety.
Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia)
No list would be complete with Lavender. Whatever the situation is, whatever time of the year it is, use Lavender. It’s a known anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, it makes a great analgesic and it promotes balance and relaxation. Lavender is also an immunostimulant and helps with depression as well. I love this stuff!
All of these essential oils are available at Aromatics International to help you get through this winter. And if you’re reading this post during warmer days, there’s some good essential oils for summer, too.
