I’ve been shouting from the rooftops about aromatherapy ever since I discovered it several years ago. If you’re a regular reader (thank you!), then you know it’s been a lifesaver for me. But maybe you’re still not sure about it, so to help you, here’s 5 immediate benefits of aromatherapy.
How Can Aromatherapy Help You?
Pure essential oils have REAL benefits and make REAL physiological changes in your body, mind and spirit. And these benefits come without the threat of addiction or damage to your body.
If you’re using fragrance oils (please don’t), you’re not getting any real benefit. They’re full of chemicals and while they may smell nice, all they’re doing is providing a nice smell. (I have lots of products to make life smell better!)
Here’s 5 immediate benefits of aromatherapy:
- Stress Relief. Using a pure essential oil (or a blend of them) can ease stress. Right now, we live in a very stressful world. We’re working from home, trying to balance work with family life and some are homeschooling children (many blessings to you). Frankincense, Lavender, Lemon and Bergamot are all proven to reduce stress. (1) When your stress level is continuously running at peak, it affects your cortisol levels. Too much cortisol constantly swimming in your system can cause memory and concentration issues, heart disease along with anxiety and depression. It’s also associated with adrenal system burnout.
- Pain Management. Living with pain is hard and living with chronic pain is even harder. Pure essential oils are proven to help you manage and reduce your pain whether it’s occasional or chronic. Aromatherapy is now used in many hospital operating rooms as part of a post-op pain management program. (2)
- Depression Management. Aromatherapy is known for helping you manage depression. (3) Prescription medication may not be the right answer for everyone and they don’t always work (just watch any of the TV commercials for depression medication). Yes, you might need medication. However, aromatherapy is a complementary and alternative method of management.
- Skin Conditions. That could be anything from eczema and psoriasis to diabetic skin conditions. The products you get from the drug store contain synthetic chemicals. They may make your skin feel better in the very short term; over the long haul they really don’t work. Pure essential oils with plant-based butters and oils are far more effective to soothe and nourish dry irritated skin and other skin conditions.
- Congestion. There’s all sorts of reasons you may be congested. Sinus and allergy problems, colds, flu, food sensitivities – that’s just a few of the reasons you’re congested. Pure essential oils are perfect for nasal, head and chest congestion. Eucalyptus essential oil dilates your bronchial system thus making it easier to breathe. And breathing is good!
Bonus fun fact! Pure essential oils are helpful with chronic inflammation. And inflammation is associated with pain and chronic disease. (4) Once again, aromatherapy is ideal for inflammation management. Some excellent oils for inflammation are Frankincense, Helichrysum, Peppermint and Lavender.
