Using Aromatherapy For Menopause

using aromatherapy for menopause,

Recently, I had the honor of presenting aromatherapy to a wonderful group of ladies interested in a more graceful menopause journey. The main presenter was someone who struggled with her journey and found very little reliable information about menopause. using aromatherapy for menopause

Even if you’re in your thirties and not ready to start this next chapter of your aging process, it’s still worth reading about alternatives to synthetic hormone replacement therapy.

It seems that nobody is willing to have an honest conversation about the changes that occur. Especially when it comes to sex and body changes.

Ladies, it’s important to talk to your mother and your daughters about this new chapter of life. It’s time to have honest conversations instead of simply throwing drugs at the issue. It’s really important – and long past time – to know that menopause is NOT the end of life. Instead, it’s the beginning of a beautiful new chapter.

Throughout my life, it’s been a joke that a woman having a *tough* moment must be going through menopause.

Ya’ll, I’m calling bullshit on that.

I walked away from the presentation with my eyes opened. Some of the information I knew and in other cases, well, let’s just say I was shocked! That’s why I wanted to write about menopause – to give you options and alternatives. The more information you have, the better decision you will make about your own body.

The information you’ll find here is very general in nature – it’s important to talk with your medical professional if you’re recognize any changes.

What Is Menopause?

Menopause is NOT an illness – it’s the natural progression of aging. Period. You’re not sick, your body is simply going through changes.

Menopause is the natural and permanent cessation of your period and marks the end of your fertility. Usually, after you’ve missed 12 consecutive periods, your menopause journey has begun in earnest.

Often, you begin seeing changes and symptoms in your late thirties or early forties. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule – so it’s important for you to have a medical professional that you trust.

Your medical professional may immediately prescribe hormone replacement therapy (HRT), but not all women can or should go this route.

Why?

If estrogen-based cancers (primarily breast cancer) run in your family, HRT may not be the best choice. Or maybe you simply don’t want to take HRT.

It’s your body – you have a choice!

Symptoms of Menopause

Some of the symptoms of menopause are:

    • irregular periods  hot flashes, aromatherapy for menopause, symptoms of menopause
    • hot flashes
    • night sweats
    • thinning hair
    • changes in sleep patterns
    • weight gain
    • mood changes and swings
    • vaginal dryness

Sounds like a lot of fun, eh?

There are still some doctors that automatically recommend synthetic HRT and a hysterectomy. This is one time when you REALLY need to get a second opinion.

One of the facts I heard at the presentation I attended is that nearly 20% of all hysterectomies are needless!

You night not appreciate what I’m about to say, but hear me out. Women are still very much marginalized in a doctor’s office. Okay, not as much as in years past, but it still happens.

That’s why it’s so important to have a doctor that you trust! A doctor who is willing to discuss all of the options out there besides HRT and hysterectomies.

Women are used as cash cows in this instance – if 1 in 5 hysterectomies are needless, what does that tell you?

What Are Other Options?

Here are some of the options to look into before making a decision about HRT or a hysterectomy:

How Aromatherapy Can Help You Through Menopause

Aromatherapy is ideal for any woman who needs a natural alternative to HRT. There are several different products at Scented Balance to help you live more gracefully through menopause.

Flares n’ Flashes Hot Flash Spray is a blend of oils specifically to cool you down and help balance your body.

MenoPause Aromatherapy Rollerball is perfect for balancing your roller coaster emotions.

VagiMagic Intimate Dryness Moisturizer helps with vaginal dryness which can actually be very dangerous.

Sleepytime Lotion aids your changing sleep habits. It readies your body and mind for healthy sleep.

Magnesium Oil for constipation, sore muscles and healthy blood pressure.

Each of these products provides a safe, effective and natural tool to help you through this time of change.

True Beauty

Society has programmed women to believe that we are no longer vibrant and productive after menopause. THAT IS SO WRONG!

You are a vibrant, beautiful and sexy woman – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

Listen, beautiful women come in all shapes, sizes, colors and ages. It doesn’t matter what happens on the outside, it’s your inner beauty that makes you a phenomenal human being.

I am NOT “less than” simply because I can’t pop out babies on demand. So the message I want to bring to you is that menopause is a new chapter in your journey and you are beautiful!

Don’t ever forget that.

Please take a moment to share this post with your friends and family – I’d like to get the word out that it’s time for an honest conversation about menopause.

Blessings,

Melissa

Using Essential Oils for Immunity

Stave Off the Cold and Flu

It’s that time of the year where the germs are flying around EVERYWHERE! Using essential oils for immunity will absolutely give you a leg up on all those sneezing and wheezing folks out there spreading their joy.

Why do we get sick more in the winter vs. the summer? There’s several reasons.

  1. Shorter days mean less production of Vitamin D and Melatonin
  2. We’re breathing mostly recycled air and getting very little fresh air
  3. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during the winter lowers your resistance
  4. The air tends to be much drier – germs like dry air
  5. More stress – wait – what?

Yes, we’re more stressed in the wintertime. The Straight Dope explains it like this:

Psychological (as opposed to physical) stress may also play a role. A study published last year in the New England Journal of Medicine reported that the more psychological stress people were under, the more likely they were to get colds.

All of the above combine to create the perfect storm and voila – we get more colds and flu in the winter. Essential Oils for Immunity, vitamin D and melatonin

If you haven’t gotten enough sleep on a regular basis, forget to wash your hands more often and don’t go outside very much, you’re just asking for a cold or the flu

Harvard University pretty much says the same thing but with lots more college words:

1) During the winter, people spend more time indoors with the windows sealed, so they are more likely to breathe the same air as someone who has the flu and thus contract the virus (3).

2) Days are shorter during the winter, and lack of sunlight leads to  low levels of vitamin D and melatonin, both of which require sunlight for their generation. This compromises our immune systems, which in turn decreases ability to fight the virus (3).

3) The influenza virus may survive better in colder, drier climates, and therefore be able to infect more people (3).

How Do Essential Oils Help?

Essential oils are ideal for boosting your immune system and help you stay healthier in the long run. Here’s some of the best essential oils for immunity:

  • Clove Bud (Eugenia caryophyllata) helps to minimize unwanted bacterial, viral, or fungal activity.
  • Cinnamon Leaf (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) is powerful for immune support and can help reduce the presence of unwanted fungal or viral activity.
  • Lemon (Citrus limon) helps boost your immune system and your liver loves it!
  • Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) supports healthy lung function and boosts your immune system.
  • Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct camphor) promotes healthy respiratory functions and helps when fighting a cold or flu.
  • Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) promotes balance and is antibacterial, antifungal and stimulates the immune system.
  • Tea Tea (Melaleuca alternifolia) is antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, supports a healthy respiratory system and helps with cough and congestion.

There’s a whole bunch more, but honestly, with these essential oils, your immune system will absolutely love you (and hey, we’re getting close to Valetine’s Day – why not show some self-love?)!

You’ll find all of these amazing essential oils in an immune-boosting blend I created called Thievery Synergy Blend.

Diffuse a few drops in a cold mist diffuser, breathe it directly out of the bottle or dilute it with your favorite carrier oil or lotion and apply to your chest and neck at least 3 times a day.

What is Aromatherapy?

essential oils uses, What is Aromatherapy, using essential oils, therapeutic-grade essential oils, body, mind and spirit, What is aromatherapy? I get asked that question a lot. Someone will ask me what I do for a living and when I tell them, they look at me like a deer caught in headlights.

The National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy – NAHA – answers this question beautifully:

Aromatherapy, also referred to as Essential Oil therapy, can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.  It seeks to unify physiological, psychological and spiritual processes to enhance an individual’s innate healing process.

So, in a nutshell, as an aromatherapist, I offer plant-based guidance and tools to help your body, mind and spirit be as healthy as possible. Aromatherapy aims to address the fact that your body, mind and spirit are connected – not separate.

I don’t just look at the physical issues that you confidentially discuss with me. I also look at what’s going on emotionally as well.

Why?

Why Do Emotions Matter?

I am a firm believer that all physical maladies begin in the 6 inches between your ears. Yes – I know – smoking causes cancer, too much junk may cause diabetes, too much stress causes heart attacks, etc., etc., etc.

I get that.

What most people don’t get is that the underlying reasons why we smoke, eat junk and feel stressed out is based on emotions. I have learned an all too difficult lesson that my emotional reactions causes most of my pain on an emotional level which usually comes out in something physical – especially when I try to stifle those emotions. Emotions and Aromatherapy

Case in point – I’m really having a tough time with my left shoulder. It hurts; I can’t exercise and free movement is hampered. Shoulder pain is all about bearing a load that is too heavy and, for me personally, trying to do everything by myself. Yep – you guessed it – the emotional stress of trying to do everything alone is showing up as physical pain in my shoulder.

So what am I doing about it? Actually, I’m doing a lot.

First of all, some things that I thought were important had to go by the wayside. I have learned that I can’t do everything by myself and expect to get a good night’s rest. Nor can I go wide open day in and day out and expect to remain healthy.

Oh – and believe it or not, I forget to eat. Seriously. I get so wrapped up in what I’m doing that I don’t listen to my body rhythms. Simply sitting down at the table with clean healthy food makes a huge difference in my stress level.

Secondly – and I believe this is very important – I use pure essential oils to address my underlying emotional issues. I created a blend of essential oils that I diffuse in the air to assist in letting go of emotional baggage, to address old traumas, to shine a light on anger, and most of all, to calm and uplift my energy.*

How can I help you if I don’t help myself first? You can’t give someone a drink from an empty cup.

I love being an aromatherapist. It is fulfilling and speaks to my soul. Whenever a client comes back and tells me the blend I created really made a difference for their issue, it feeds my soul.

I want to show you how easily you can take control of your physical, mental and spiritual health, too.

How does Aromatherapy help?

It’s important that you know: I cannot heal you in any way, shape or form. What I can do as an aromatherapist is offer an amazing plant-based tool that triggers your body’s innate healing ability – whether it be physical, mental or spiritual.*

My approach to aromatherapy is to address the whole person – body, mind and spirit. I focus on areas where I know aromatherapy makes a difference:

My fee for a one-hour confidential consultation is $95 plus the cost of blends. The consultation fee covers researching any medications you take, what issues you want to address and the essential oils that can help you trigger your body’s innate healing abilities.

I can’t make any guarantees – neither can your doctor – but what I can do is offer you natural – holistic – tools to help you take charge of your own well being. I work mainly through Skype so you don’t even have to leave your home.

Not everyone has access to regular doctor’s visits, and aromatherapy offers a way to get out ahead of minor issues before they become full-blown medical concerns.

Take that first step today – call, email or fill out the contact form and let’s get started today.

As always, I send you my blessings!

Melissa
