5 Ways Drinking Lemon Water Improves Your Health and Life

5 ways drinking lemon water improves your life and health

Do you feel good? Are you healthy? If not, or you want a simple way to help yourself get healthier and feel better, here’s 5 ways drinking lemon water improves your health and life.

For Reals!

What’s Up With Lemons?

Why are lemons (and all citrus fruits, really) so good for you? That little yellow bombshell is loaded with stuff your body loves:

    • vitamin C
    • B-complex vitamins
    • calcium
    • iron
    • magnesium
    • potassium
    • fiber

Lemons have more potassium than grapes or apples. Vitamin C, potassium and magnesium are all critically important for approximately 300 bodily functions. And fresh lemon juice taste pretty good, so that’s a plus!

It’s easier for your body to absorb and process the vitamins and minerals it needs from food and beverages than it is from pills. Pills don’t always break down in your intestines, so you may not be getting any nutrients from them at all.

5 Ways Drinking Lemon Water Improves Your Health and Life

Here’s just a few of the benefits of drinking lemon water:

1. Your Liver Will LOVE You!

When I studied anatomy and physiology for aromatherapy school, I found out a whole lot of things I didn’t know and the one that stuck with me the most is how good lemon is at protecting your liver.

YO – you can’t drink yourself silly just because you’re imbibing lemon, okay?

EVERY MORNING, squeeze half of a fresh lemon into either warm or room temperature water (about 6 to 8 ounces) and drink it down. Woo hoo – you just made friends with your liver!

2. Flushes Out Toxins in your system

This goes along with reason number 1 above, and makes you feel better because you’re getting rid of all the toxins that would otherwise be stored in your liver and other organs. Most of us have not connected the dots when we feel tired and draggy, but this is one culprit.

According to BodyEcology.com the toxins lodge in your cells, soft tissues, and muscles, and overwhelm your entire immune system and that’s why you feel sluggish.

See what’s going on?

3. Reduces Inflammation

This is huge y’all! Inflammation is the culprit behind so much disease and left unchecked, it causes real damage. You may not be aware of it right now, but it wreaks havoc on your system. Go back to reason number 1 and drink that lemon water every day!

4. Boosts Your Immune System

The d-Limonene in lemons is known to activate white blood cells which is what makes up your immune system. (Have you had your lemon water yet today?)

It’s full of vitamin C which is like having jumper cables for your immune system. That’s why you take more vitamin C when you feel a cold coming on

5. It Reduces Anxiety and Depression

Lemon is the most universally loved scent and it’s excellent for those who live with anxiety and depression as it has a calming effect on your nervous system.

Bonus Reasons Why Lemon Water Will Change Your Life fresh lemon juice, drink lemon water

I couldn’t resist – here’s even more reasons to drink lemon water every day!

    • Helps fight hunger cravings (hello weight loss!)
    • Assists with fighting viral infections
    • May help manage blood sugar levels
    • Excellent for avoiding kidney stones

HERE’S THE BIG CAVEAT TO ALL THIS WONDERFUL NEWS: Lemon is acidic until it hits your intestines, so it will take rust off a bumper (and the enamel right off your teeth). That means you must DILUTE THE FRESH LEMON IN WATER. Got it?

Have your drank your lemon water yet?

Listen, nobody gets out alive in this life and I’m not saying that drinking lemon water makes you perfectly healthy and you’ll live forever. What it does help you with is keeping your system cleaner and happier and that means m-a-a-a-y-b-e you’ll stay healthier longer.

IT’S HALF OF A LEMON AND SOME WATER – YOU CAN DO THIS!

Let me know if you have any questions about drinking lemon water – or how aromatherapy can make a huge difference in your life. You can call, email or simply fill out this quick and easy contact form and let’s talk today!

Another Day – Another Adventure

Another Day - Another Adventure, leap of faith, adventure, aromatherapy in Kernersville, Ramey Dawn Wellness Group

Don’t you love the saying “Another Day – Another Adventure”? It just sounds like so much fun!

Well, I can’t stand it any longer and I just have to tell you about my new adventure!

I’ve been invited to join the Ramey Dawn Wellness Center in Kernersville, North Carolina!

Yasss – now ain’t that some awesome news?

What does that mean for you?

For you, it means Scented Balance is more centrally located in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina. It means that I’m practicing aromatherapy in a wellness center with an awesome group of holistic practitioners.

And…it means I’m taking a huge leap of faith and taking Scented Balance to the next level. This is for reals y’all.

I’ve been putting it out to the universe (or whatever higher power you believe in) about taking Scented Balance to the next level. A central location is important as I want as many people as possible to comfortably feel like I’m within reach when they need me.

Through Scented Balance, you know (I hope) that I have products to help you find your happy, soothe your raw emotions, manage your pain, and take on the world – and win. That’s what I do. I also know my studio wasn’t in the most convenient location for you.

Over the last few months, I’ve looked at different spaces for convenience.

Sheesh!

The rent in some of these spaces is out of reach. And that out-of-reach rent would have placed a whole lot of STRESS on me. And I simply can’t justify it.

Out of the BLUE – I got a contact from the absolutely amazing Pattie of Ramey Dawn Wellness Group – just like that – who knew?

Ramey Dawn Wellness Group is full of holistic practitioners who help you live your best life – and now it includes me. You’ll find an esthetician, skin care specialist, health and life coach, acupuncturist, reflexologist, massage therapist, personal trainer, pain management and weight management specialist AND an aromatherapist – Scented Balance – all under one roof.

Needless to say, I’m thrilled about this next chapter for Scented Balance and for ME personally.

For now, I’ll keep doing the fairs, festivals and other events as I’ve committed to them through the end of 2019. After that, I do appreciate getting out and meeting folks, so I’ll continue attending a few select events just so I can shake your hand (or hug your neck).

I’ll post my hours on my Facebook page in the next couple of weeks and I plan on hosting a Grand Opening this summer, but I wanted you to share in my good news now!

I hope to see you very soon!

Blessings,

Melissa

5 Reasons Why Aromatherapy Should Be Part of Your Healthcare Routine

5 Reasons Aromatherapy Should Be Part of Your Healthcare, Why Aromatherapy, homeopathic remedies, certified aromatherapy, essential oils for, aromatherapy and traditional medicine

Aromatherapy and “doing essential oils” seems to be a huge fad all of a sudden. Now, I’m really grateful that aromatherapy is back in vogue but part of it is really concerned about this new “fad”. Today, I’d like to educate you about aromatherapy (the real profession) with 5 reasons aromatherapy should be part of your healthcare.

Honestly, you don’t need to be a certified aromatherapist to wisely and carefully use essential oils for your health.

To earn my certification, I took over 300 hours of training in anatomy and physiology, chemistry and blending techniques to understand how pure essential oils react with your body. What that means for you is that you don’t need to spend so much time digging for honest and safe information because it’s right here on the Scented Balance website. I thoroughly understand the health benefits of essential oils and how they can help you.

My spirits sink each time I hear someone proudly proclaim “I do essential oils!” when in reality, they don’t have a clue what they just said. Unfortunately, there is a tremendous amount of misinformation floating around which actually does more harm than good.

I learned a conservative and sustainable method of aromatherapy. I’m not here to push oils on you that you don’t need; I’m here to help you safely and wisely improve your well being and to help you take charge of your health.

There are companies out there that recommend using a huge (and unnecessary) amount of essential oils as well as taking them internally – seriously – STOP! It takes a clinical aromatherapist or naturopathic physician with a lot of training to guide you through safe internal dosing. Truthfully, more is not better.

Why Aromatherapy Should Be Part of Your Healthcare

Using essential oils in your daily routine improves the quality of your life simply and easily. Let’s see how.

  1. Essential oils have chemical properties that are anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, wound healing, expectorants (great for congestion), immunostimulants and analgesic – just to name a few. What does this mean for you? Instead of reaching for yet another pill with negative side-effects that can do lasting damage to your body, talk to a certified aromatherapist about your concerns first. Essential oils were used as medicine many years ago up until the big pharmaceutical companies got involved in the mid-twentieth century and created a toxic cocktail of chemicals.
  2. Aromatherapy offers a complementary method that works well with your current healthcare regimen. Most essential oils will not interfere with your doctor’s prescribed medication. Be aware that some oils can interfere especially if you are on anti-depressants or blood thinners.
  3. A certified aromatherapist can guide you with solid knowledge of essential oils (and how they work) to help you physically, emotionally and mentally. Each oil has its own chemical makeup that addresses physical issues and also has energetic properties that help you with such concerns as stress, anxiety, depression, anger and grief. This is another instance where it makes sense to talk with a certified aromatherapist and use plant-based products before you reach for that chemical cocktail.
  4. Essential oils – used correctly – can help you with little health concerns that you and your family deal with before they become full-blown issues that require a trip to the doctor – or worse. Concerns like headaches, sore muscles, mild depression, sinuses, colds and flu, indigestion, eczema, psoriasis – these are all areas where essential oils are a viable solution.
  5. Essential oils offer viable alternatives to a myriad of chemically-laden products we use on our bodies and in our homes. Why does this matter? Try reading a label on your shampoo, body wash, facial cleanser, insect repellent, bath/tub/tile cleaner and room sprays. If you aren’t scared of these ingredients then you aren’t paying attention. The chemicals found in these products are toxic and damage your organs, sap your energy and make it harder to stay healthy. Maybe you don’t think it’s important right now because you’re healthy, but even 10 years from now, these products will slowly sap your health. You haven’t made the connection yet and neither has the medical world. (Actually, the medical community has made the connection, they just don’t want you to know about it.)

People come to my studio and my booth at the markets and talked about their fear of not having health insurance. You talk to me about losing your insurance; about how to stay as healthy as possible when you can’t see your doctor on a regular basis; you ask me about affordable alternative methods to keep you out of the doctor’s office. You also ask me about your headaches, indigestion, stress, anxiety, depression, eczema, chronic pain and many other concerns you have.

It bears repeating that I am not a doctor or healer. I cannot heal you and neither can your doctor. Only you can heal you – period. What I offer as a certified aromatherapist is my knowledge, compassion, empathy and the amazing wisdom of nature to help you help yourself.

The aromatherapy tools I offer give you a choice in how you heal yourself. The health benefits of essential oils have clinical trials to back them up just like traditional prescriptions do.

Aromatherapy and Traditional Medicine

Yes, we need traditional Western medicine but, I believe the medical system has failed us miserably. Sometimes, aromatherapy is not the answer and we need modern medicine to help with major health problems. Essential oils cannot address seriously advanced diseases such as heart disease and kidney failure.

Sometimes, traditional medicine is the only answer. BUT, there are many times when homeopathic remedies such as aromatherapy work perfectly well without all the negative side effects. That’s when a skilled certified aromatherapist (like me, for instance) can make a real difference.

Think about this example. When you tell your doctor you’re experiencing depression, you’ll get a prescription for anti-depressants that make you feel sluggish, affect your sex life, numb your thinking and increase the chance of suicidal thoughts.

If you don’t get the prescription filled, you take a chance on being labeled “non-compliant” and that’s when the insurance companies get cranky.

What that prescription anti-depressant does is treat the symptom and not the cause.

How does this really help you?

Do you really want to give up a glass of wine and good sex to walk through life in a foggy, disconnected state? Wouldn’t you rather get to the root cause of your depression with some sensible aromatherapy and life coaching and function clearly at the same time?

It is a proven fact that by taking the chemical prescription drugs, you have to heal twice. Once from the malady itself and the second time from the toxic treatment you took.

We’re watching more television than ever and being bombarded with commercials for the latest and greatest drugs. All you have to do is go to your doctor, tell her that you saw this drug advertised on TV and now you can miraculously cure 40 years of poor lifestyle choices with a magic pill.

What no one wants to hear about are the side effects of that pill. Swelling of the throat and tongue, tears in your stomach lining, skin rashes, numbness in your limbs, increased chance of stroke and heart attack and the possibility of death are just a few of the many side effects of chemicals.

Several years ago, aromatherapy found me and I learned the power of holistically helping people feel better in every area of their life. Aromatherapy and holistic life coaching both spoke to me so deeply that I had no choice but to train in these amazing modalities.

I am so grateful when people tell me that the product I painstakingly created has made a difference in their well being. More than that, I am proud to offer a sensible tool that doesn’t wreak havoc with your health or your pocketbook.

I want to help you help yourself. The best way you can take charge of your health is by looking for answers – honest answers to your concerns. That’s where I come in. Fill out the short contact form right now and let’s get started today.

Blessings,

Melissa

Uninsured – Part 2 – Headaches and Migraines

losing heath insurance, Natural Migraine relief, aromatherapy for migraines, uninsured, headaches and migrainesLast week, we talked about aromatherapy as an alternative form of healthcare especially if you will be one of the 22 million uninsured or losing health insurance over the next few years. Today, I’d like to expand a little on how you can use both aromatherapy and holistic life coaching as additional tools in your healthcare toolbox when living with headaches or migraines.

When I talk with people during coaching sessions and aromatherapy consultations, there are several chronic conditions that people talk about and one of the bigger issues is headaches and migraines. Not everyone knows what is triggering their headaches or migraines, so I start asking questions:

  • What changed just before your headache or migraine occurred?
  • Have you tried going gluten-free?
  • Have you tried going dairy-free?
  • Are you eating enough?
  • Are you drinking enough water? (Ooh – this is a biggie and a sore spot!)
  • Are you under a lot of chronic stress?
  • Do you tend to have sinus issues which turn into headaches or migraines?
  • What does your sleep schedule look like?

Yes – I know, it’s a lot of questions and I don’t always ask all of them unless someone wants me to. Hey, I’m NOT a doctor, but if I ask you enough questions, maybe that will make you think about what’s triggering the headaches or migraine and possibly schedule a much-needed doctor’s appointment. With solid knowledge, you can make lifestyle changes to possibly lessen the severity, length and frequency of headaches and migraines and that’s why I ask so many questions.

If you aren’t sure what the symptoms of headaches or migraines are, (maybe it’s stress, maybe it’s a cluster headache) here’s a good explanation of the indicators from www.VeryWell.com.

Tension headaches occur on both sides of the head (migraines can too but are more likely on one side), and they feel like a tightening grip, almost like a rubber band is being stretched around your forehead and scalp.

Another key distinguisher between the two is that the pain of a tension headache is not as disabling as that of a migraine. A person experiencing a tension headache can usually go on with their day, but just feel a bit uncomfortable. Simple movements, like walking around their home or office, will not impact their headache, as it often does in the case of a migraine.

Sinus headaches and migraines are also commonly confused. In fact, the majority of sinus headaches are actually migraines. According to a 2007 study in Headache, 63 percent of patients who self-diagnosed themselves as having a sinus headache were actually experiencing a migraine.

WOW! Now you know why sometimes you don’t get relief from your headache when you take over-the-counter sinus tabs.

The Science of Aromatherapy

By the time clients come to see me, they’re frustrated, tired of the over-the-counter meds not working and frazzled with the pain. One of my case studies in aromatherapy school was a client with migraines – the kind that knock you flat on your back for three days at a time at least a couple of times a month.

I went digging to see what triggers headaches and migraines and HolisticHelp.net gives this explanation:

There are a variety of other theories out there as to other contributors or causes of migraine headache, including deficiencies in magnesium and essential fatty acids, abnormalities in calcium channels, hormones, abnormalities in the central nervous system, undiagnosed food sensitivities, inflammation of the maxillary nerve, overgrowth of Candida yeast, cavitations and environmental toxins, have all been found to be linked to migraines.

Combining Aromatherapy with Holistic Life Coaching

From a what-triggers-your-headache and holistic coaching perspective, my questions center around resistance, self-criticism and perfectionism. What area of your life isn’t up to your standards? Is there a particular area of life where you are resisting change (or maybe not going “with the flow”)? How’s your self-talk – critical and harsh or generous and warm?

I can feel some of you shaking your head and thinking just how ridiculous that sounds, but if you look at the doctrines of Eastern and Ayurvedic medicine you’ll see that they believe everything is connected – body, mind and spirit. What that means for you is that for every physical ailment you experience, there is an underlying emotional or spiritual cause.

Say whatever you want – Chinese and Ayurvedic medicines have been around for thousands of years so, comparatively speaking, Western medicine is brand new and does the opposite: quite often it disconnects the body from the mind and spirit and only treats the symptoms and not the cause of illness.

Each client receives their own personalized coaching as I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all programs. Together, we’ll shine a light on the underlying cause of your headaches and migraines and see how you can help yourself in this area.

To address your immediate symptoms, let’s talk about Headache Ease Aromatherapy Roller Ball.  You don’t ingest any of the ingredients; you gently apply the contents where it hurts, i.e. your forehead, temples, sinus, back of your neck, etc. It can’t cure, fix, or heal because I’m not allowed to make any claims. However, Headache EZ directly addresses the symptoms of your headaches and migraines – that’s all I can say. You’ll find the ingredient list on the product page – many of the pure essential oils in the roller ball are scientifically proven analgesics.

Next week, we’ll talk more in depth about eczema and psoriasis and go into more detail about the cause and how to deal with the symptoms. For now, if you would like a short and sweet overview of aromatherapy and holistic life coaching, here’s a short explanation of how I can help you take charge of your overall wellbeing without insurance.

Let’s talk about your concerns – I don’t want you to feel like you’re alone – you’re not! You can easily book a coaching or aromatherapy session by clicking on the small popup window at the bottom right of your screen or by going to the Contact page and filling out the short form. Do it today – get a head start on being your healthiest you!

As always – I am very grateful that you stopped by – thank you for spending your valuable time here.

Uninsured? Look to Alternative Health Care

Uninsured, Alternative Health Care, Alternative Medicine, natural remedies, pre-existing conditions under the ACHAUninsured? It’s important to look to alternative health care along with natural remedies if you find that insurance is simply too costly.

It’s a touchy subject these days. If you have what’s considered to be a pre-existing condition, it’s bad news. Alternative medicine

Health insurance plans may become out-of-reach for many of us in the coming years. I’ve been uninsured for several years now and I’ve had to find alternative means of protecting my health because I don’t have regular access to a doctor.

Many health concerns will be classified as pre-existing conditions under the ACHA and here is a list of them in alphabetical order. Most likely, if you have any of these conditions, you can still get insurance, but it may cost so much that it becomes unaffordable or your condition will be excluded from coverage.

Insurance companies won’t have to cover certain basic services like hospitalization, mental health, pregnancy, prescription drugs, and disease prevention. You can see how quickly how things will get out of hand.

The hardest hit? Those who are starting a family, the middle-aged, seniors and those with pre-existing conditions.

If you face being uninsured, what I’d like to do is show you alternative tools that you can easily use to get ahead of minor concerns before they become full-blown emergencies. Don’t get me wrong – we NEED a way to visit the doctor and sometimes things happen like broken limbs, car accidents, pregnancy and many other serious situations that you cannot treat on your own – you MUST seek medical attention.

How Can Aromatherapy Help Me?

It’s in the less serious situations where aromatherapy can make a huge difference in your life. Pure essential oils can help you with:

This really isn’t a comprehensive list but I mainly want to show you that you do have options. I have clients with many different concerns and, almost always, aromatherapy can help you feel better and stay healthy.

Earlier this year, I caught a cold and at first, I thought it was a sinus issue. So I treated it with specific oils for sinus but it turns out that I actually had a head cold that became a chest cold with lots of congestion. I switched to essential oils that are specific for colds with mucous in the form of a personal inhaler and also made a blend to apply to my chest to help with the congestion. Using aromatherapy, I was able to stay ahead of the cold to keep it from becoming a major problem. Even if all you have on hand is tea tree essential oil, you’re ahead of the game.

The Value of Alternative Therapies

As an aromatherapist, I offer tools such as this to help you protect your precious health. I cannot cure, heal, fix or change you; I simply have effective tools to help you help yourself. Your body – if given the proper tools – does a marvelous job of healing itself.

Areas such as aromatherapy, homeopathy, acupuncture, reiki and reflexology are considered alternative medicine. It’s a shame, because these complementary therapies are excellent at any time for staying healthy. Simply visiting your local chiropractor can do wonders – when your spine is aligned, you are less apt to get sick.

I carefully researched and created several products to help you protect your health using plant-based ingredients which are MUCH kinder and gentler to your liver. Simply switching out a Headache-EZ roller ball for acetaminophen (also known as TylenolTM) can make a huge difference.

The Headache-EZ roller ball works in the same amount of time that it takes your body to process the aspirin or TylenolTM and it works for migraines, tension headaches and sinus headaches – wherever it hurts, simply apply it there.

If you live with eczema or psoriasis, you might already know about PsoMaxx which directly addresses the scales, dryness and itch of these issues. The ingredients are all plant-based and do not cause the brown patches that steroids do.

If you’re feeling uneasy or scared about the future of insurance, I’m in the same boat as you are. I’m on a mission to help you take charge of your well-being by educating you on tools that you can easily implement to help everyday issues before they become a crisis. Staying healthy really begins with self-care – it begins with YOU!

Over the next few weeks, I will be looking at alternative and complementary forms of healthcare for those who may find themselves uninsured. I’ll explore natural remedies for many health concerns and options that don’t require insurance. I do hope you’ll stay tuned to this space for a deeper look at taking charge of your overall wellbeing.

Down the road, you’ll find guest bloggers who are experts in their respective fields such as reiki, yoga, acupuncture, acupressure, chiropractic, massage and health coaching. I want to be an honest resource for you if modern medicine isn’t working for you or you find yourself uninsured.

Please take charge of your health and well-being NOW. Don’t wait until you’re out of options – let’s talk today.

As always, I’m very grateful you chose to stop by!

Blessings,

Melissa
