Sacral Chakra (Svadhishthana)
The second chakra is the sacral and is located in your lower abdomen about two inches below your navel.
It’s the center of your sexuality, intimacy, relationships and creativity. Your emotions and senses are here as well.
While the root chakra gives you a stable foundation for exploring, the sacral chakra provides you with the joy of life necessary for seeking out and relishing new experiences.
The second chakra is the link between our senses and feelings and how we process the world with our mind.
Happiness is something we all strive for in life. A balanced sacral chakra provides the ability to celebrate life’s little pleasures, encourages playful learning and inspires creative expression.

When your sacral chakra is balanced, you’re in tune with your body and emotions and you have a sense of happiness and joy that comes from deep within. You’re comfortable with your sexuality and expressing your feelings in a healthy and free manner.
When this chakra is out of balance, you may experience:
- a deep feeling of sadness
- creative blocks
- a dislike of change
- sexual inhibitions
- a negative body image
Physical symptoms may manifest as:
- kidney or urinary problems
- lower back pain
- fertility/impotence problems
- menstrual issues
- digestive struggles
- addictions (drugs, alcohol, junk food, etc.)
Your sacral chakra may be blocked if you were raised to hold in your emotions or if sex was considered taboo in your home. Maybe you were pushed to follow a path your family chose for you as opposed to finding and following your true purpose.
How To Balance Your Sacral Chakra
There’s several simple ways to balance your sacral chakra and ensure it’s open and flowing which correlates to better health overall.
Exercising is a good way to care for your body, mind and spirit. Yoga is wonderful for calming and balancing your whole system. Practicing yoga teaches you good breathing habits and helps with mindfulness.
Stones are very helpful to balance your chakras. Some good stones for balancing your second chakra are:
- Carnelian for boosting your energy levels and confidence
- Aragonite is effective for emotional frustrations and blockages
- Orange Calcite is very calming and inspiring
For just a few minutes every day, it helps to visualize an orange ball of light pulsating at your lower abdomen.
Drinking plenty of fresh water and eating clean fruits and vegetables in the orange family are excellent for balancing your sacral chakra.
