Third Eye Chakra (Anja)
The sixth chakra is your third eye and is located in the area between your eyebrows.
The third eye chakra relates to your intuition, inner wisdom, vision and clarity. It’s the seat of your conscience, ethics and sense of justice.
This chakra is closely related to your pineal gland, a pea-sized gland which is said to be the seat of the soul. It secretes serotonin which regulates sleep patterns and melatonin which relate to our circadian rhythms. Melatonin also controls our stress level and ability to adapt to change.
The third eye energy center is the home of your “sixth sense”. If you’ve ever had a strange feeling to take a different route or found someone you’ve just met to be “off” in some way without knowing why, this is the third eye chakra at work.
It’s an important chakra to the subtle energy system as your “inner vision” could “play” like a movie in your head. Most likely, you can see the vision clearly but may have difficulty verbalizing and describing it.
The sixth chakra is most closely associated with the color indigo which is a blueish-purple color. It’s the color of perception, intuition and the higher mind. The website Empowered By Color says this about the color indigo:
Indigo stimulates right brain or creative activity and helps with spatial skills. It is a dramatic color relating to the world of the theater, which, during times of stress becomes the drama queen, making a mountain out of a molehill!
When your third eye chakra is balanced, you’re intuitive, have clarity of thought and vision, flexible in your opinions and can usually remember your dreams vividly. Your third eye acts as your faithful warning system regarding sketchy situations and people as well as help you discern the truth when you can’t “see” all the facts.
A blocked sixth chakra may manifest as:
- narrow mindedness
- lack of imagination
- difficulty concentrating
- daydreaming too much or “spacing out”
- trouble setting clear priorities
- obsessive behavior
Physically, a blocked sixth chakra may show up as:
- poor eyesight
- headaches and migraines
- sinus issues
Your third eye may be blocked if you tend to get bogged down in little details and are unable to see the big picture, you’re unable to choose a path in life, or though you think through your decisions, they turn out to be consistently wrong.
How To Balance Your Third Eye Chakra
There’s several simple ways to balance your third eye chakra to ensure it’s open and flowing which correlates to better health overall.
Yoga is wonderful for calming and balancing your whole system. Practicing yoga teaches you good breathing habits and helps with mindfulness. Yoga also is excellent for tuning in to your intuition and listening to your body.
Stones are very helpful to balance your chakras. Some good stones for balancing your third eye chakra are:
- Amethyst to soothe and stimulate the mind and emotions
- Sugilite to reduce the intensity of negative emotions
- Moonstone encourages introspection which yields better decisions
For just a few minutes every day, visualize a bluish-purple ball of light pulsating between your eyebrows.
Getting enough sleep is critical to the proper functioning of your sixth chakra especially between the hours of 1 and 4 am.
Fluoride is highly damaging and you’ll find it in your water supply and toothpaste. Foods to offset it are:
Believe it or not, red wine, dark chocolate and coffee are also wonderful for the third eye chakra!
Essential Oils For Your Third Eye Chakra
Aromatherapy blends specifically for the sixth chakra are very helpful to cleanse and balance when it’s over-active or under-active. Some excellent essential oils are Lavender, Laurel Leaf, Rosemary and Melissa.
You can diffuse them, inhale them or blend a drop of each along with a carrier oil and apply to your brow area but be cautious with Melissa. It can easily irritate your skin.
You can use them separately but together is always better.
Apply the Third Eye Chakra Roller Ball to your brow area at the top of your nose, temples and your inner wrists.
The Aromatic Mist is ideal to spray in the air or on your body when meditating, during your yoga practice or whenever you feel blocked and bogged down with details.
