Solar Plexus Chakra and Your Health
Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
The third chakra is called the solar plexus and it’s located around your navel in the stomach area.
The solar plexus chakra is the core of who we really are, our determination and it dictates the warmth of our personality.
It’s the center of our willpower; the lesson of this chakra is using our personal power in a balanced and healthy manner along with being reliable and being proactive in life rather than reactive to the circumstances life brings you.
It’s also the center of our self esteem; each time you bully yourself, judge yourself harshly or have negative thoughts about your traits or your body, it weakens the solar plexus chakra.
The third chakra is associated with the color yellow which is joyous, uplifting and powerful. It’s the first color that the human eye picks up which is why school buses are painted yellow. The website ColorPsychology.org says this about the color yellow:
Yellow is a truly joyous and radiant color. It exudes warmth, inspiration and vitality. It is the happiest of colors. Yellow signifies communication, enlightenment, sunlight and spirituality. If your treasured color is yellow, you look forward to the future. Intellectual, highly imaginative and idealistic, you have a cheerful spirit and and expectation of greater happiness.
When your solar plexus chakra is balanced, you have a strong sense of self, clarity in making decisions, you’re disciplined and independent, cheerful and possess a certain warmth to your personality.
When this chakra is out of balance, you may experience:
- a lack of clear direction in your life
- poor follow through on ideas or tasks
- manipulating people
- being obsessed with minute details
- excessive need for control, or
- a victim mentality
These symptoms may physically show up as:
- insomnia or trouble sleeping
- frequent indigestion
- frustration and anger
- allergy problems
- stress that never eases
- a weak immune system
Your solar plexus chakra may be blocked if you feel disconnected in any way, if you struggle to find your sense of purpose or possibly overeating to suppress your emotions. This is an important chakra for showing up in the world as our authentic selves.
How To Balance Your Solar Plexus Chakra
There’s several simple ways to balance your sacral chakra to ensure it’s open and flowing which correlates to better health overall.
Yoga is wonderful for calming and balancing your whole system. Practicing yoga teaches you good breathing habits and helps with stress levels.
Stones are very helpful to balance your chakras. Some good stones for balancing your root chakra are:
- Citrine which promotes focus, clarity and willpower

Energy healing such as Reiki or sound therapy will help you to balance an under-active or over-active solar plexus chakra.
For just a few minutes every day, visualize a yellow ball of light pulsating at your stomach area. Sitting in the sunshine for a few minutes whenever possible gives your bones a good dose of Vitamin D along with boosting your spirits!
Because this chakra has so much to do with digestion, a healthy diet really serves you well. Eating these foods will help your diet:
