Good food is one of life’s pleasures. There’s just something wonderful and fulfilling about eating a tasty and eye-appealing meal.
Somehow, we don’t think about the fact that good, clean food is medicine for our bodies. In our hurried and harried lives, we forget that good food is healthcare and doctors are sickcare.
As I’ve said before, the medical mafia wants us to believe that synthetic medicine can heal all our woes and we can live whatever lifestyle suits us with no ill effects. Why not? There’s always a pill from the doctor that we can take to make everything go away, right?
Wrong.
Good Food is Healthcare
I’m doing everything in my power to preserve my precious health for as long as possible. I also strongly believe that moderation is the key – in just about every aspect of life.
So when it comes to food – and I mean good food – we forget that it’s the basis for a healthy life and helpful for preventing disease.
We’re getting back to basics as evidenced by farmers markets popping up all over place during the last several years. We’ve always had farmers markets, but there’s lots more now than there was 10 or 15 years ago.
And more people are using their backyards and patios to grow some of their own food. I believe the pandemic and the possibility of food shortages spurred people to learn how to grow some of their food instead of relying on multiple trips to the grocery store (and seeing empty shelves).
Who better to help us navigate the world of nutrition than a dietitian? This week, I chatted with Kristen Norton, a registered dietitian and the co-founder of Well Balanced Nutrition to talk about the role that our diet plays in preventing illness.
Honestly, good nutrition is easier than you think – and no you don’t have to give up potato chips and chocolate chip cookies! Kristen and her business partner, Lucy Hayhurst, are pros at showing you how to simply and easily use your diet for better health.
Listen, I would eat my weight in potato chips, spinach artichoke dip and dark chocolate if I could!
But, I know that’s not real healthy for me, so I eat the rainbow. The more colorful your diet is, the happier your body is!
Aromatherapy to Help With Cravings
I’ve never been a fan of diets. To me, a diet means I am depriving myself of fun food (and the joy of eating it) but that’s not necessarily true! So let’s say for the sake of argument that I need to cut down on salt and reduce the amount of carbs and sugars that I eat.
Just the thought of that REALLY makes me want a bagel slathered with dark chocolate with a side of potato chips!
Aromatherapy can help you with the cravings. Remember, pure essential oils are plant-based and nature has wisdom to share if we only would pay attention to it!
Here’s a diffuser blend that you can use to help with the cravings you might get when embarking on a lifestyle change:
Cravings Blend
1 drop Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)
2 drops Peppermint (Mentha x peperita)
1 drop Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi)
1 drop Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)
1 drop Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum zeylanicum)
Add all the above drops to your cold mist diffuser and run for 30 minutes at a time. Or you can put the drops all on one cotton ball and inhale it several times during the day especially when you feel a craving coming on.
If you like, I’m happy to make this blend for you – simply add Custom Blends to your cart and let me know in the notes you want the Cravings Blend – easy peasy!
